衛福部統計雲嘉南6歲以下學童蛀牙率全國最低，網友議論紛紛「台南號稱全糖城市，怎麼可能？」面對學童蛀牙率低之說，醫師表示，通常來醫院求診都已是牙齒出現狀況，尤其「城鄉差距大」，偏鄉比起市區就容易遇到幼童滿口蛀牙案例，甚至有幼童乳牙「蛀平」，恆牙又未長出，連吃東西都受影響。

近日不少網友熱議台南學童蛀牙率低的議題，有網友打趣「因為蛀牙的都是大人？」「牙齒用糖做的？」「合理懷疑父母親牙齒蛀牙問題嚴重，轉而向孩子施加清潔壓力」。牙醫師對於學童蛀牙率偏低也有不同看法，有人覺得應是家長較有保養小孩牙齒的概念，但也有牙醫師認為，前來求診的學童蛀牙比例仍不低。

奇美醫院牙醫部牙周病科主治醫師李芳欣指出，學童蛀牙率在偏鄉、市區明顯有別，她以自身同時在永康、柳營看診經驗來說，偏鄉家長對於孩子在牙齒照護、口腔衛教相對較不充足，蠻常看到小朋友已是滿嘴蛀牙才來就醫。
